Junior Women Winter High Performance Camp, December 11-14

The US Junior Women's National Team held their Winter HP Sweep Camp in Austin, Texas at the Texas Rowing Club, December 11-14. This was an "invitation-only" camp and Coach Moore invited 20 sweep rowers and 3 coxswains to participate this year.

The Winter Sweep High Performance Camp serves as an opportunity for the Junior National Team coaches to work with a select group of athletes (Those returning from last year's team, 2009 HP Team members , top performers from Dev Camp and those identified through coach's recommendations) early in the process and is quickly becoming a big part of the preparation for the Selection Camp in June that will ultimately select the US Team that will compete for medals in the Czech Republic at the Junior World Championships in August 2010. The camp is designed for the athletes to gain an understanding of the technical, physical and mental preparation that needs to start during the winter months in order to aspire to the medal stand in August.

Each athlete received reference material, that has also been provided below, to use throughout the winter and spring to improve erg performance as well as have the ability to establish a dialog with the coaches that can be continued during the coming training months.

* The Junior Women’s National Team: Presented by Guenter Buetter, 2009 Junior National Team Assistant coach, and Daniel Duxbury, 2009 Development Camp coach.

* The learning experience of the 2009 Junior World Championships, including a question and answer session with Guenter Buetter, coach of the U.S. Junior Quad at the 2009 Junior Worlds in France.

* Expectations and things you can do to become a more effective sculler, including specialized drills, how to use tapes (both audio and video) for feedback, technique issues and training tips.
