 Men's Development Camp

Our Mission

The Jr Men's Development Camp rowers come to Pittsburgh with at least one more year of junior eligibility after the year they row for the D-Camp. As the name of the team suggests, the goal is to develop athletes into rowers and coxswains that will make the top boats for the Junior National Team the following year and to provide them with an education that will serve them as they progress through the USRowing National Team system for years to come. Dev Camp rowers have not been invited to the Junior National Team this year, but will be the core athletes on the team the following year.

In 2009, 37 Rowers and Coxswains came to Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, PA. They were from all corners of the United States, calling 15 different states and 29 rowing clubs “home”. While there is a focus of getting the team prepared to represent the United States at USRowing Club Nationals and/or CanAmMex, the focus of the camp is developing the athletes into better oarsmen and coxswains. The group is educated both on the water and off. Practices are held at one of Three Rivers Rowing Association two boathouses. While most of the practices are held on the water, TRRA ergs, weight room and indoor rowing tanks are also utilized. Video and tape recordings are used as training tools off the water for rowers and coxswains. Team sessions in weight training, nutrition, stretching, core strength and heart rate were very popular in 2009 and will likely be repeated for the 2010 team.
