The 2013 Jr Worlds Development Team provides a development opportunity for athletes who have birthdays in 1995 or later that have demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level. The goal of this opportunity is to prepare an identified group of 8-10 rowers and 1 coxswain who are invited to Selection Camp who are age eligible, not quite ready for the World's level racing requirements, and provide them with international racing experience that will push them to the next level and give them the experience they need to be on the medal stand the following year at the World Championships. These athletes will attend ten days of Selection Camp and then train together for two weeks prior to leaving for Berlin, Germany. They will train in Berlin and will have the opportunity to scrimmage with boats from the German Junior National Team.
This has proven to be an invaluable part of our Junior National Team athlete development including preparing for racing in unfamiliar environs, dealing with nutritional challenges, working through jet lag and not hearing a lot of the English language.
