USRowing E-Magazine Interview with Steve Hargis

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This site is designed to provide you ---- the Junior athletes, Junior Coaches and the parents of Juniors ---- a ‘semi-realtime’ communication tool to:

>  keep you informed about upcoming events.

>  detail the wide range of development opportunities presently available.

>  provide recommended training programs/schedules from the JRNT Head Coaches.

>  serve as training resource targeted specifically for Juniors.

>  show, through photos and video, the fantastic experiences and fun that JRNT athletes       are having!

And to get things started, let's take a look at the athletes that represented the US this past summer in France.

2009 Junior Worlds Photo Album

These are exciting times for Junior athletes with more developmental opportunities being offered every year and a record number of athletes attending the wide range of identification opportunities.  This has led to a stronger Junior National Team that is performing at at a very high level and representing the US well in the Junior World Championships. And, now more than ever, we are seeing a record number of Juniors stay actively engaged in the National Team programs and represent the US at the U-23 and Senior Team level.  A real testament to the JRNT coaching staffs, Junior/HS coaches and supportive parents!

The layout of the site follows the JRNT program structure.  This page will always highlight any new information that may have recently been added to a specific section or simply a ‘public service announcement’.  The ‘ID Camps’ section details what an ID Camp is all about, the registration and payment process,  and where and when you can find the closest ID camp to you.  This part of the site will also include any other camps that serve to identify athletes throughout the year like the HP Sweep and Sculling Camps held over the winter. We are also planning to provide erg results from the ID Camp for all athletes that provide  permission to do so.  For many athletes, this is a good way to get your erg scores and contact information out to potential recruiters.  We will also be providing any presentation materials that may have been provided to the athletes at the session in the event that you were not able to attend.

The ‘Selection Camp’ section provides an overview of the selection process and then walks you through the various opportunities that are available to Selection Camp attendees.  Each one of the highlighted programs also provides you information on the coaching staff, the itinerary, the costs and some insights/motivation from athletes that have gone before.  I hope to hear from many of our alums as the sit gets up and running as I think they can a big help in preparing our present athletes for the road ahead.

The ‘Junior Development Camp’ section provides an overview of the development process and what the requirements/expectations are for invitation to Development Camp.  It also provides you information on the coaching staff, the itinerary, the costs and Alumnae.

The ‘Junior B Sculling Camp’ section provides an overview of the camps and what the requirements/expectations are for invitation. It also provides you specific information on each camp by geographic location including the coaching staff, the itinerary, the costs and Alumnae.

The ‘Media Center’ will be a way to get information to you that is not necessarily camp related but will serve as a resource for either your training or coaching.  It will link you to breaking news about training/development/identification opportunities. It will also include powerpoint presentations that I have given in recent conferences, videos of races as well as instructional level, audio files of model race tapes and the like, photo galleries, and documents.  This section is designed for growth and should not be interpreted as a ‘one-way’ communication tool.  If you have information that you think others will benefit from, please send it along!  If there is information that you are interested in, please let me know and I will do my best to source it for you!

So, there you have it!  Please pass the site address along to your friends and colleagues.  If you were on one of the recent teams and have some photos you want me to post, just send them along!

I wish all of you the best in your Fall racing season and all the best in your preparations for the upcoming Spring racing season!

Take care,

Steve Hargis
